Want to switch to VoIP but keep your current landline or 085 number? You can. Number porting is the process that brings your existing number to CheapConnect. Your current provider releases the number, and CheapConnect links it to your new VoIP account.
It costs a one-time fee of €5.00. Porting itself takes 5 business days on average.
Register for free via this page. After registering, log in to the CheapConnect portal (account.cheapconnect.net). All you need is an email address.
In the portal, go to Number porting and enter your current number. Make sure you have the following on hand:
CheapConnect submits the porting request. You'll receive a confirmation date.
Cancel your subscription with your current provider after the confirmed porting date. Make clear it's an outgoing number port, not a request to cancel the number itself.
Cancel too early, and you risk losing your number.
Browse the portal free of charge. No subscription, no contract.
5 business days on average. Sometimes it's faster, sometimes it takes a bit longer depending on your current provider. CheapConnect keeps you posted on the progress.
A one-time fee of €5.00. After that, you pay the regular VoIP subscription of €8.95 per year. Incoming calls are free; outgoing calls are billed per second.
Landline numbers (010, 020, 030, etc.) and 085 numbers. 06 (mobile) numbers can't be ported to a VoIP account.
Yes. During the porting period, your number stays reachable through your old provider. On the confirmed date, the number switches over to CheapConnect. There's at most a few minutes of downtime at the moment of the switch.
No. You can call using a free SIP app on your smartphone, an IP phone, or an ATA adapter on a regular analogue phone. You don't need any special modem or device from CheapConnect.
Yes. If you don't want to bring your current number, you can choose a new regional or 085 number when signing up. That's included with the €8.95 per year subscription.
